Development of a multi-gear spatially explicit assessment and management strategy evaluation for the Macquarie Island patagonian toothfish

The Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) tagging program at Macquarie Island during the experimental longline fishery between 2007 and 2010 is described in Chapter 6.
From 2007 to 2010, four voyages were undertaken by longliners to Macquarie Island; in 2007 by the FV Avro Chieftain and 2008-2010 by the FV Janas. Fishing was successfully spread along the ridge in order to better understand the stock’s spatial extent, movement rates ontogenetic changes in distribution and stock size. A high average tagging rate was achieved in all seasons.
