Strategic assessment

Export approval

It is an offence to export any native animal without either an exemption or a wildlife trade operation permit. Under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Part 13A) fisheries with an export component may be assessed to obtain an exemption or wildlife trade operation permit.

Export approval is assessed through the strategic assessment process as the assessment criteria for strategic assessment and export approval are essentially the same.

More information about export approval and more specific information about wildlife trade operations is available from the sustainable fisheries section at the Department of the Environment and Water Resources.
