Sharing the oceans with other users

AFMA is often asked to provide comments on proposed activities which may interact with fishing or have potential effects upon the fishing industry. Activities include:

  • Petroleum / mineral exploration
  • Burial at sea
  • Sea dumping
  • Marine farming development
  • Boat scuttling

These are routine processes by which other commonwealth/state government departments, or proponents who wish to conduct the activity, seek advice.

The information that AFMA provides conforms to confidentiality requirements. Advice often includes: Commonwealth fishing activity in the area of interest, potential concerns or issues, and contacts for relevant industry bodies.

You can find out more about Commonwealth fishing operations in specific areas by checking the fisheries at a glance page.

If you would like to lodge a request please provide details about the activity including: location (coordinates), type, nature, timing and duration of the activity.
