Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark FisheryManagement of the fishery and its sectorsAbout the Management Plan 2003Which existing fisheries are included?AFMA, in cooperation with stakeholders has developed the Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery Management Plan 2003. The plan provides stability and sustainability to four important existing fisheries in the southern region which have been amalgamated into the Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery (SESSF) under a common set of management objectives. The SESSF has four component sectors; the Commonwealth Trawl Sector (formerly the South East Trawl & Commonwealth Victorian Inshore Trawl Fisheries); the Great Australian Bight Trawl Sector (formerly the Great Australian Bight Trawl Fishery); the Gillnet Hook and Trap Sectors (formerly the Gillnet Hook and Trap [and previously the Southern Shark and South East Non-trawl] Fishery) and the East Coast Deepwater Trawl Sector (formerly the East Coast Deepwater Trawl Fishery). Why has the single management plan been developed?The single management plan provides an overarching management framework to manage sectors which have overlapping areas of waters and species. Quota and/or boat Statutory Fishing Rights (SFRs) are granted to those who satisfy the eligibility criteria listed in the plan. Boat SFRs are gear specific and reflect existing rights to use particular gear and/or access particular areas of the fishery. Importantly, the plan:
