Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery

Principal species

There are currently 30 species/species groups that are subject to quota management through the setting of Total Allowable Catch (TAC) limits as Quota Statutory Fishing Rights, and as Individual Transferable Quotas (ITQs) on fishing permits.

Agreed TACs for SETF quota species from 1992-2005

The species are detailed below:

  • Blue eye trevalla
  • Blue grenadier
  • Blue warehou
  • Elephant fish
  • Flathead
  • Gemfish (East and West)
  • Gummy shark
  • Jackass morwong
  • John dory
  • Ling
  • Mirror dory
  • Ocean perch
  • Orange roughy
  • Redfish
  • Royal red prawn
  • Saw shark
  • School whiting
  • School shark
  • Silver trevally
  • Spotted warehou

In 2005 there will be several new quota species;

  • Smooth dory
  • Ribaldo cod
  • Oreo dories (basket of warty, spiky, rough and black)
  • Deepwater sharks
