e-Logbooks

Register for e-Logbooks

When electronic reporting is introduced in your fishery you will need to make an application to the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) before you can begin to use an electronic logbook and lodge electronic logbook reports.

How to register for electronic catch and effort reporting

  1. Before commencing to use an electronic catch and effort logbook and lodging electronic logbook reports, you must register with AFMA. To do this you will need to register on the AFMA self service portal for:
    • each concession holder and for each authorised agent
  2. After processing your registration, there will be confirmation of the following:
    • Confirmation of your registration
    • You will be assigned a unique username and a password.
  3. These details must be entered in the electronic logbook and will accompany every report transmitted to AFMA. This is to ensure that electronic logbook data has been transmitted by an authorised user who represents or is the concession holder..
  4. When it comes time to transmit electronic logbooks, you will be able to do so via internet connection or via email. The supplier of the e-Log software will provide you with instructions on how to transmit e-Log data.
  5. Please note that logbooks sent using an internet connection will only require an authorised person’s user name and password. Logbooks that are sent using an email option will require a unique digital certificate to encrypt the message and protect it’s content.
  6. We will provide more details on email rules in the near future.
  7. All e-Logbook returns will be receipted and acknowledgement sent back to the originator.
  8. Should problems arise with the electronic logbook reports that you send to AFMA, for example incomplete or corrupted reports, AFMA may direct you to cease sending electronic logbook reports and return to completing and sending paper logbook reports.
  9. We will write to existing concession holders in the Northern Prawn fishery confirming the steps for registering vessels for e-Logs and authorised agents.
