Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) guidelines

Our policy guidelines for the use and application of vessel monitoring system (VMS) are the result of a consultancy commissioned by the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA).

In developing these guidelines the following stakeholders were consulted:

• Chairs of peak industry bodies
• Executive officers of Management Advisory Committees (MACs)
• Industry executives
• Senior state fisheries compliance officers
• Other Australian Government stakeholders
• Computer hardware/software suppliers

The guidelines are designed to provide a policy framework on which decisions about the introduction of VMS into Commonwealth fisheries can be based.
