Data collectionGood decision making depends on having the best quality information available. This means providing information which is relevant, accurate and timely to our fisheries managers and researchers. The data collected by our data collection programs is used for assessment and monitoring of fishery impacts on fish stocks (both target and bycatch species) and the marine environment in which the vessels operate. The main use of our data is in the analysis and the assessment of the status of target and byproduct fishery stocks. The stock assessment process provides information for management decision making. Although stock assessment is the primary use of our data, the data is also used by other agencies to assess and monitor our performance in managing fisheries. Page last updated 3 August, 2005 |
