Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery RAG
Until recently, research in the Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery (SESSF) sectors focused on single species assessments of the major quota species, however there is now a focus on ecosystem based management of the species in the SESSF.
The Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery Resource Assessment Group (SESSFRAG) develops the Strategic Research Plan. SESSFRAG initiates, reviews and critiques research proposals and research results where relevant to the SESSF. SESSFRAG advice is considered by SEMAC, GABMAC and the AFMA Commission. SESSFRAG also considers data from the Integrated Scientific Monitoring Program (ISMP). For further information see the research and assessment page.
The South East Fishery Assessment Report 2004 (PDF, 1.6MB) describes the status of the South East Fishery at the end of 2003.
SESSFRAG meets twice a year holding a planning meeting and a plenary session. The plenary session considers each quota species based on advice from individual RAGs and other relevant information. SESSFRAG also holds separate meetings to address specific issues.
SESSFRAG has four smaller assessment groups reporting to it, these being;
- Great Australian Bight Resource Assessment Group (GABRAG)
- Shark Resource Assessment Group (SharkRAG)
- Shelf Resource Assessment Group (ShelfRAG)
- Slope Resource Assessment Group (SlopeRAG)
The following are agendas and minutes from recent SESSFRAG meetings.
