TTRAG

Tropical Tuna Resource Assessment Group (TTRAG)

Please note: The Western Tuna and Billfish Fishery Resource Assessment Group (WTBRAG) and the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Resource Assessment Group (ETBRAG) were combined in 2009 to form the Tropical Tuna Resource Assessment Group.

The main role of TTRAG is to provide advice on the status of fish stocks, substocks, species (target and non-target), and on the impact of fishing on the marine environment for the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery (ETBF), Western Tuna and Billfish Fishery (WTBF) and the Skipjack fisheries. This includes ‘running’ the ETBF harvest strategy and identifying Recommended Biological Commercial Catch levels that are provided as advice to the Tropical Tuna Management Advisory Committee (TTMAC) and the AFMA Commission during the process of establishing Total Allowable Commercial Catches for each quota species in the ETBF.

TTRAG is composed of fishery scientists, industry members, fishery economists, management and other interest groups. The wide membership ensures that, in addition to scientific information on each fish stock, industry knowledge and developments in management strategies, market prices and the costs of harvesting are also taken into account.

Papers and meeting reports from previous TTRAG meetings can be obtained from the links below. If you wish to view papers from the former WTBRAG and ETBRAG, they can be downloaded from the web archive link below.
