Registration of eligible persons for the grant of statutory fishing rights under the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Management Plan 2010

AFMA intends to grant Statutory Fishing Rights (SFRs) under the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Management Plan 2010 (the Plan).

In accordance with sections 24 & 25 of the Act, AFMA invites interested persons to apply to be registered as eligible for a grant of Statutory Fishing Rights (SFRs) under the Plan.  An application must be made in the approved form (see below) and must be received by AFMA within the notice period. The notice period is the period from the date of this notice to (and including) 06 May 2011.

A person is eligible under this grant if immediately before revocation of the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery Management Plan 2005 (the Previous Plan):

(a)     (i) the person held a longline SFR, a minor line SFR, a boat permit, or a Coral Sea Zone permit under that Plan; and

(ii) the person has not exercised an option within the meaning of s31A of the Fisheries Management Act 1991 arising out the revocation of the Previous Plan; or

(b)     the person held an eastern skipjack purse seine permit (ESP permit). 

Note that this grant is separate to the grant of Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery SFRs made to Option holders on 28 February 2011.

AFMA has published a notice outlining the intention to grant quota SFRs under the Plan in the Gazette and The Australian newspaper on 8 April 2011. The notice provides information on the process of the grant and is available from the link below.  A copy of the approved form along with the notice that was published in the Gazette has been sent to all eligible persons notifying them of the grant process.
