The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) is seeking applications for member positions on the Commonwealth Fisheries Marine Mammal Working Group. The Commonwealth Fisheries Marine Mammal Working Group provides advice to AFMA on marine mammal mitigation arrangements for Commonwealth managed fisheries. In particular, members are sought to support the:
- identification of marine mammal bycatch issues in Commonwealth Fisheries
- development and review of marine mammal management strategies for AFMA managed fisheries
- development of fishery and/or vessel specific management arrangements for marine mammals
This advice will assist AFMA in its role to sustainably manage Commonwealth fisheries.
We are seeking marine mammal mitigation experts, marine mammal scientists, members from the commercial fishing industry, recreational fishing sector and conservation sector. Candidates with qualifications and/or experience in marine mammal bycatch mitigation, marine mammal science and experience in fishing vessel operations would be highly desirable. Members are sought for the period up to 30 June 2020.
