Under Commonwealth fisheries legislation, AFMA fisheries management must be conducted in a manner consistent with the principles of ecologically sustainable development. The ESD principles contain ecological, economic and social aspects.
AFMA is carefully considering how it incorporates the third pillar of ESD (social) into its decision making and has developed the draft position statement as a starting point for discussions with stakeholders.
