Research and data

We establish research priorities for Commonwealth fisheries and arrange for research to be undertaken to address these priorities. Research undertaken for the Australian Fisheries Management Authority seeks to address a number of fisheries management related issues.

Also, in pursuing effective management of Commonwealth fisheries, we collect or arrange for collection of data on fishing practices, fish stocks and the broader ecosystems on which they depend.
