Fourteen Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) staff took to the local touch football fields in the ACT on Wednesday 11 July 2018 to participate in the 16th annual NAIDOC Week Touch Football Carnival for employees of the Australian Public Service (APS).
420 APS employees across 30 teams faced off in a round-robin tournament to determine their placement in the finals rounds.
AFMA’s team were up against the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in the quarter finals for the Plate, but were knocked out of the finals after losing 5-2.
With the sun beaming down across the grounds, AFMA’s team were graceful in their defeat, holding their heads high after having an excellent day representing AFMA and celebrating NAIDOC Week with fellow APS colleagues.
The champions of the first division Trophy round went to the Department of Parliamentary Services, while the Australian War Memorial took out the second division Cup, and the winner of the third division Plate went to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
The annual NAIDOC Week Touch Football Carnival is a joint effort between the Australian Public Service Commission, the Department of Education and Training, and Touch Football ACT, with support from the Department of Human Services, the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and the Department of Social Services.
