Export approval has been re-granted to Australian operators fishing on the high seas for the next five years.
AFMA and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) have worked closely with the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (SEWPAC) and the fishing industry to ensure the fishery continued to meet the requirements for export approval until 18 May 2018.
High seas permits allow Australian operators to fish outside the Australian fishing zone in areas managed under the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation or the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement. Key species harvested on the high seas include popular table fish such as blue-eye trevalla and orange roughy.
Further information on fisheries export approvals can be found on the SEWPAC website.
