Since 2013 AFMA has been publishing aggregated raw catch data on data.gov.au.
The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) requires Commonwealth fishers to report their catch and effort data in daily logbooks while at sea.
Effort and gear data for most Commonwealth fisheries between 2002 and 2016 is now included in the dataset. This includes the number of boats, the different gear types, the number of trips, and the hours fished.
The data is used for a range of purposes by AFMA, including fisheries management decisions and monitoring operator compliance.
AFMA provides the data to scientists who use it for analysis and assessment of fish stocks and ecological risk assessments to help AFMA manage Commonwealth fisheries. This analysis also informs the AFMA Commission when determining the sustainable catch limits for Commonwealth target species.
AFMA publishes raw data while upholding the highest standards of security and privacy consistent with AFMA and Australian Government policies.
