A closure has been introduced in the Southern and Eastern Scalefish and Shark Fishery (SESSF) to prohibit the retention of snapper from 13 November 2018 until 16 December 2018. This complements a closure implemented by the South Australian Government over the same period to protect snapper stocks.
The SESSF (Closures) Direction No. 1 2018 will commence at 12:00am on 13 November 2018 and will cease at 12:00am on 16 December 2018. It prohibits the retention of snapper (Chrysophrys auratus) taken using gillnet and longline methods in waters adjacent to South Australia until 16 December 2018.
Please note this snapper closure is applicable until 2018 only. Any future closures will only be implemented subject to agreement with the South Australian Government on a broader range of management measures.
