AFMA’s capacity building in the Pacific

As part of our capacity building effort in the Pacific, our International Compliance Operations, and Legal teams assisted in delivering the Certificate IV in Fisheries Compliance and Enforcement and competency-based assessments in in Suva, Fiji, in August 2023.

The course was developed by the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA), in collaboration with the Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pacific TAFE) programme of the University of the South Pacific (USP).

Our representatives assisted in the delivery of the following components of the course:

  • Effective questioning

  • Hazards analysis

  • Boarding and inspection

  • Effective written statement/affidavit

  • Moot Court.

“The training assists AFMA’s ongoing capacity building and standing in the Pacific and helps foster relationships with organisations such as the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency and SPC. AFMA has helped deliver this training for a number of years, with each year well received and greatly appreciated. We look forward to continuing this work in the future,” said Daniel, Senior Government Lawyer, Corporate Services Branch, AFMA.
