Public Comment: Draft Seal Management Strategy 2027-2031

The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) has developed a draft Seal Management Strategy and is seeking comment from stakeholders.

The draft strategy has been developed in consultation with the fishing industry and the South East Management Advisory Committee (SEMAC). 

The objectives of the draft strategy are to:

  • Improve the accuracy, consistency and timelines of reporting 
  • Minimise the frequency and severity of seal interactions over time
  • Support crew safety
  • Support environmental stewardship and long-term social license
